WOMAN KILLS SELF, FIVE CHILDREN

30 May, 2006 l 0903 hrs IST l PTI

MURADABAD: Unable to bear poverty and social stigma, a woman reportedly killed her five children before consuming poison herself in Karula area of the district on Monday.

Sanjeeda, 40, whose husband Iqbal and brother-in-law are serving life terms, was said to be frustrated by her financial depravity and social stigma because of the jailed relatives, sources said.

A mother of three boys and two girls, Sanjeeda mixed the poison in water and gave it to her children to drink saying it was medicine, following which she herself consumed the concoction.

Noticing that no one was emerging from the house for a very long time, worried neighbours informed the police who broke open the door and found the lifeless forms of the six.
