FAMILY FINDS 'KKK' SCORCHED INTO LAWN; FBI INVESTIGATING

- The FBI has joined an investigation into who scorched the letters "KKK" in the front yard of a black couple's home.

Emanuel and Amelia Smith found the 6-foot-long initials for the Ku Klux Klan scorched into their well-manicured lawn Thursday. Local police call the incident a hate crime.

Vigo County Sheriff's Lieutenant Tim Gossett joined an FBI agent yesterday in interviewing the Smiths about the incident.

The couple reported Thursday morning to a sheriff's deputy that someone had singed the "KKK" on their lawn, and that a tire on their son's car, park outside, had also been punctured.

Amelia Smith says that she didn't think this type of thing still happened. But she says it's clear that some people still have a hatred of African-Americans.
